David Blatt is a professional basketball coach and former player. He was born on May 22, 1959 in Boston, Massachusetts. He grew up in Framingham and attended Hebrew language school twice a week. He started playing basketball while attending Framingham High School. He was accepted to Princeton University and served as the team’s point guard and captain from 1977-1981. He graduated in 1981 with a degree in English Literature. After graduation he immigrated to Israel to pursue a basketball career.
Profession
Blatter made his debut in 1981 as a player for the Maccabi Haifa basketball club. He played for several Israeli teams for nine years until an injury ended his playing career. Blatter started the 1993-194 season as coach of Hapoel Galil Elyon. He went on to coach teams from Russia, Italy, Turkey and Greece. On June 20, 2014, he was hired as the head coach of LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers won the Eastern Conference and reached the NBA Finals. Blatter was fired as head coach of the Cavaliers on January 22, 2016. The team had the best record in the East at the time (30-11). He was replaced by retired NBA player ‘Tyronn Lue’.
