Dave East (Dave East) is an American rapper, signed to Mass Appeal Records and Def Jam Records. His records include mixtapes Hate Me Now (2015), Kairi Chanel (2016) and EP Paranoia: A True Story (2017). He was nominated for the 2016 XXL freshman class. East was born in New York City on June 3, 1988, his original name is David Brewster. He grew up in East Harlem in Manhattan. East attended Springbrook High School in Maryland. He attended the University of Richmond before transferring to Towson University. He played basketball in college and university. He also participated in the Amateur Sports League with future superstar Kevin Durant.

Profession
East’s first mixing tape, Change of Plans, was released in July 2010. Hosted by DJ Ill Will and DJ Rockstar. He followed up with Insomnia (2011), American Greed (2011), Don’t Sleep (2011) and No Regrets (2012). His sixth tape, Gemini (2012), caught the attention of Nas, and Nas quickly signed him to his label Mass Appeal Records. Followed by two other mixtapes, Black Rose (2014) and Straight Outta Harlem (2014). East’s 9th mixtape “Hate Me Now” (2015) included guest artists such as Pusha T, Rico Love, Styles P and Jadakiss.

In June 2016, East was one of 10 rappers selected for the XXL freshman class. Others include G Herbo, Lil Dicky, Anderson Paak and Lil Uzi Vert. His 10th mixed tape Kairi Chanel was released later in 2016. It ranks third on the top R&B/Hip-Hop album chart. The 15-track tape features Cam’ron’s “SDE” and 2 Chainz’s “Can’t Ignore”. East signed with Def Jam Recordings in 2016. His first EP, Paranoia: A True Story, was released by Def Jam and Mass Appeal in August 2017. It is ranked 9th on the Billboard 200. This EP contains guest verses from Nas, Jeezy, French Montana and Wiz Khalifa. The lead single “Perfect” features Chris Brown.

In addition to music, Dongfang also has some experience in actors. His TV debut is now in the 2017 BET series “Being Mary Jane”. He starred in an ad for Puma’s Tsugi Shinsei men’s training shoes in 2017. He appears in Straight Stutin Chronicles (Volumes 2 and 5). He also appeared in the 2017 “It Ain’t Me” music video by the rapper Trina. East appeared in the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards cypher. He was the host of the 2017 Goldie Awards in New York City.
