The teenage Dawkins first showed his b-ball talent in high school before becoming one of the few to go straight to the NBA. He played in the league for 14 years, averaging nine double figures and regularly leading the league in field goal percentage. Additionally, he reached the NBA Finals three times as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Dawkins, on the other hand, set the NBA record for fouls in a single season (386 in 1983-84), and he never quite lived up to the expectations of him after high school. However, he is still remembered for his powerful dunks, which earned him the nickname “Chocolate Thunder.” After his NBA career, Dawkins was hired as the head coach of the American Basketball Association’s Newark Express team and the American Basketball League’s Pennsylvania Valley Dougs, respectively. Off the field, he co-authored an autobiography with Charlie Rosen titled “Chocolate Thunder: The Uncensored Life and Times of Daryl Dawkins.” The book tells the story of his life on and off the court as an NBA star. Dawkins currently lives in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Tragically, Daryl Dawkins passed away on August 27, 2015 at the age of 58.
