Daryl Coley is an American gospel singer, pastor, and a former member of Helen Stephens and The Voice of Christ. He is known for popular songs such as “He’s Preparing Me,” “Jesus Saves,” and “Beyond the Veil.” Coley was born on October 30, 1955 in Berkeley, California. He grew up in a Christian family and played the clarinet and piano from an early age. Coley attended Castlemont High School in Oakland, California. He became a member of Helen Stephens and the Voice of Christ at the age of 14.

Coley started at Edwin Hawkins Singers in 1977. There he played keyboards for six years before starting his solo career. He has performed in various jazz clubs and collaborated with artists such as Nancy Wilson, Rodney Franklin and Earth, Wind and Fire. He also serves as songwriter and music director for Tramaine Hawkins.

Coley released his debut album Just Daryl in 1986, which included the song “II Chronicles”. The album was quite successful and was nominated for a Grammy. His third album, He’s Right On Time: Live From Los Angeles, was released in 1990 and featured the songs “He’s Right On Time” and “I Need Your Spirit”. Coley’s 1992 live album “When the Music Stops” reached number one on the Gospel chart.

Daryl Coley was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes in 1991. After years of struggle, he spent his final days in hospice care. He died on March 15, 2016 at the age of 60. He is survived by his wife “Jenelle” and his three children, including son “Te’ceion”.
