Daniel Caesar is a Canadian R&B/soul singer, songwriter and guitarist. His recordings include the albums “Freud” (2017) and EP, “Pilgrim’s Paradise” (2015) and “Voice of Praise” (2014). He has worked with HER, Kali Uchis, Sean Leon and Anderson Paak among others. Caesar co-founded the record company “Golden Boy Records” with producers Matthew Burnett and Jordan Evans. Over the years, his honors include Grammy Awards, Juno Awards and 2 Soul Train Music Awards.
Caesar was born on April 5, 1995 in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, and his original name was Ashton Simmonds. He is 1 of 4 children. His parents are Horace and Nowell Symonds (gospel singers). With the success of Get You, Caesar began to perform more frequently in concerts and music festivals.
Caesar’s first solo album “Floyd” was released by Golden Child Recordings in August 2017. In addition to “We Find Love” and “Blessed”, it is also supported by the aforementioned single “Get You”. The album is ranked 16th on the Canadian Albums Chart and 25th on the Billboard 200 list. Freud features cameos from HER, Charlotte Day Wilson and Syd. The production was handled by Jordan Evans, Matthew Burnett, BadbadNotGood and others. Freud was nominated for 3 Grammy Awards, including the best R&B performance award for his single “Best Part”. The Freud World Tour held in the United States from October 2017 to March 2018 in Australia further supported the album.
In 2018, Caesar appeared in Peter CottonTale’s single “Forever Always” and later appeared in The Free Nationals’ “Beauty & Essex”. His only single of 2018, “Who Hurt You?” Released by Golden Child Recordings on October 16. In the first 6 months, it has accumulated more than 80,000 streaming media on SoundCloud and YouTube. Caesar has appeared on TV shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live!, James Corden’s Late Night Show and Seth Meyers’ Light Night. He was a featured performer at the 2018 Soul Train Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada.
