Born in Davenport, Iowa in 1971, Dana Holgorsen played college football from 1991 to 1992 near his hometown of Wesleyan, Iowa. He began his coaching career at Valdosta State University in 1993 as a quarterback, wide receiver and special teams coach.
Three years later, he accepted the same position at Mississippi College before moving to Wingate to coach wide receiver and quarterback. A season later, Holgersen accepted a job as wide receiver coach at Texas Tech. Four years later, he was promoted to co-offensive coordinator, and two seasons later, he became the only offensive coordinator for the Red Raiders. In 2008, Holgosen left Texas Tech to become Houston’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, where he remained until 2009. In 2010, Holgosen became Oklahoma State’s offensive coordinator for a season before West Virginia hired him as head coach. In the middle of the 2014 season, Holgersen amassed a 27-22 career win-loss record and a .500 bowl record in two appearances. Holgorsen received the FWAA Coach of the Year honor in 2011. He is a father of three and lives in Morgantown, West Virginia.
