Dan Hicks is an American singer, songwriter, rhythm guitarist and founder of the band “Hot Licks”. He was born on December 9, 1941 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He moved with his family to Santa Rosa, California when he was 5 years old. He started playing drums at school and later landed a spot on the local radio show “Time Out for Teens”. He studied broadcasting at San Francisco State College before joining the Liars in 1965 as drummer.

Hicks formed his own band, Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks, in 1967. They signed with Epic Records and released the album “Original Recordings” in 1969. The band regrouped a few years later and released the successful “Last Train to Hicksville” 1973 album. Their other notable albums include “Where’s the Money?” ” and “Get Rich.” Hicks disbanded “Hot Licks” in 1973, claiming he didn’t want to be a bandleader anymore. He formed a new band, The Acoustic Warriors, in the 1980s, releasing the album “The Acoustic Warriors” in 1996. Shootin’ Straight.
