Dale Curry was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia in June 1964. A 6-foot-4 shooting guard and small forward, he was the McDonald’s All-American at Fort Defiance High School. Curry won state championships in basketball and baseball and was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 1982 MLB draft. Curry played college basketball at Virginia Tech, where he was a three-time All-Metro First Team. In 1986, he was named the Metro Conference Player of the Year and the All-American Second Team.
Curry was selected by the Utah Jazz with the 15th overall pick in the 1986 NBA draft. He played for the Jazz from 1986 to 1987 and then the Cleveland Cavaliers from 1987 to 1988. Curry played for the Charlotte Hornets from 1988 to 1998 and the Milwaukee Bucks in 1999. He ended his career with the Toronto Raptors from 1999 to 2002. Curry was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year in 1994 and is the leading scorer in Charlotte Hornets history. His No. 30 jersey was retired by Virginia Tech and inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
