Cortez Kennedy is an American NFL player and member of the Professional Football Hall of Fame. He played 11 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and made 8 appearances in the Pro Bowl. Kennedy was born on August 23, 1968 in Osceola, Arkansas. He is 6 feet 3 inches tall and serves as a defensive tackle. He was raised by his mother Ruby Harris and stepfather Joe Harris. Kennedy attended Rivercrest High School, followed by Mississippi Northwest Community College. He won a football scholarship and continued his education at the University of Miami.

Kennedy played college football at the University of Miami. In 1989, he helped the Hurricanes win the NCAA Division I FBS championship. He was also selected to the All-American Team in 1989. Kennedy was selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the 3rd overall pick in the 1990 NFL Draft. From 1990 to 2000, he played a total of 11 seasons. He was named the first team rookie by PFWA. Kennedy participated in the Pro Bowl 6 times from 1991 to 1996. From 1998 to 1999, he appeared twice. After recording 14 quarterback sacks, he was named the 1992 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
In his career, Kennedy played 167 games, recording 668 tackles, 58 sacks and 3 interceptions. He has been selected as a full-pro player of the first team 3 times and a full-professional player of the second team twice. His honors also include the Seattle Seahawks Honor Ring and the NFL Team of the Decade of the 1990s. Kennedy was inducted into the Miami University Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 and into the Professional Football Hall of Fame in 2012. His No. 96 jersey was retired by the Seahawks in 2012.
