His nickname was the Texas Tornado. His father, an amateur motorcycle racer, introduced Colin to a small motorcycle, which he raced in his first race at the age of four.
He became the No. 1 ranked junior motocross racer and won many races. At 14, he stopped racing, but two years later he started road racing. He went undefeated as an amateur, won championships, and was sponsored by Southwest Motorsports. Edwards turned pro in 1992. Edwards won Superbike World Championships for Honda in 2000 and 2002, and finished second in 1999 and 2001. He switched from superbikes to the MotoGP World Championship in 2003 and has raced for Honda, Yamaha, Suter, FTR Kawasaki and forward Yamaha. He currently drives for the NGM Mobile Forward Racing team. He won the Suzuki 8 Hours in 1996 and again in 2001 and 2002. He represented the United States twice at the Michelin National Cup, winning in 2002. He owns the Colin Edwards Texas Tornado training camp in Lake Conroe.
