CM Punk is a retired American professional wrestler, comic book writer and actor. He is currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship as a mixed martial artist. Punk was born Philip Jack Brooks on October 26, 1978, in Chicago, Illinois. His mother was a housewife and his father was an engineer. He has four siblings, including former wrestler Mike Brooks. Punk was educated at Lockport Township High School in Lockport, Illinois.

Punk started out as a backyard wrestler at the Lunatic Wrestling Federation. After joining a tag team called Chick Magnets, he adopted the alias “CM Punk”. Punk received formal training at the Steel Dominion Wrestling School in Chicago before making his professional debut in 1999. He has played in a handful of independent tours such as Pro Wrestling Zero1, Ring of Honor and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Punk made his World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) debut in 2005. He has won 2 WWE Championships and 3 WWE World Heavyweight Championships. Over the years, his opponents have included wrestlers such as John Cena, Kane, The Rock and Daniel Bryan. Punk became the fastest wrestler to win the WWE Triple Crown at 203 days. He retired from WWE in 2014 and started wrestling.
Punk signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2014. He lost his first mma fight to Mitch Gall at UFC 203 in September 2016. In addition to fighting, Punk has contributed to many comic books as a writer. His film credits include The Lord of the Rings (2013) and The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age SmackDown! (2015). He has appeared in the TV series Talking Dead (2012-14), Maron (2014-15) and The Evolution of Punk (2016).
