Claywood Net Worth: Kerry Wood is a retired American baseball player with a net worth of $40 million. During his career as a pitcher, he played for three MLB clubs, the Chicago Cubs, the Cleveland Indians and the New York Yankees. Born Kerry Lee Wood on June 16, 1977 in Irvine, Texas, he achieved his first success in the sport while playing high school baseball.
In 1995, he was selected by the Chicago Cubs with the fourth overall pick in the amateur draft. Next, he played three years in the minor leagues before rising to fame. He was just a 20-year-old rookie in 1998 when he had 20 strikeouts in a pushback against the Houston Astros. According to some, Wood’s feat may be the greatest single-game pitching performance in MLB history. As a result, he became the co-holder of the MLB record for strikeouts in a single game (20) and earned the nickname Kid K. That same year, Wood was also named the 1998 National League Rookie of the Year. He would go on to record more than 200 strikeouts in four of his first five seasons. In addition, he broke multiple MLB strikeout records and was a two-time All-Star despite multiple injuries throughout his career. Wood finally retired on May 18, 2012, after playing professional baseball for 14 years.
