Clay Travis is an American sports journalist, radio host and author. He currently works as a TV analyst at Fox Sports 1. He is the founder of the college football website Outkick The Coverage. Travis was born Richard Clay Travis on April 6, 1979, in Nashville, Tennessee. He received his BA in History from George Washington University in 2001. He is also a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Law.

After law school, Travis practiced law in Tennessee and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In 2004, he got media attention when he blogged about a 50-day pudding strike. He was on strike because he couldn’t get NFL Sunday tickets to watch the Tennessee Titans game during his stay in the Virgin Islands. Travis began working as a writer for CBS Sports in 2005. After leaving the network, he worked as a writer/editor for the sports website “Deadspin”. He later worked as a columnist for “FanHouse” (now Sports News). Travis was called “the best sports radio host we love to hate” by Nashville Scene in 2010. He co-hosts the sports radio talk show “3HL” with Brent Dougherty and Blane Bishop. The show airs on 104.5 The Zone.
Travis founded Outkick The Coverage, a college football website, in May 2011. It has since grown to thousands of daily visitors. Travis started at Fox Sports in 2014. He currently works on the network’s weekly college football Saturday pregame show as well as their weekly SEC football show. His website Outkick was licensed under Fox Sports in 2015. The multi-year contract is said to be worth millions.
Travis’ first book, Dixieland Delight, was published by HarperCollins in 2007. While writing the book, he toured all 12 stadiums of the College Football Southeastern Conference. His other publications are Men: The Book (2008) and On the Rocks (2009).
