At the age of 10, he was discovered in a national talent search at MGM Studios. Jarman made his debut as Jody in the 1946 film One Year Old.
In 1947, he played Alec in the film High Barbaree. In 1949, Jarman played Jerry, Roughshod as Steve Phillips, and Intruder in the Dust as Chick Mallison.
