In his early years, Bush and his younger brother Brandon made their debut at the local Bush Bean Carnival as Dolly Parton’s opening act. As a teenager, Bush was proficient enough on the guitar to start writing original songs with the guitar as an accompaniment. During his college days at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, Bush made connections with the local music scene in Atlanta. Although Bush had some success when he performed with Andrew Hyra in a duo they called Billy Pilgrim, it wasn’t until Bush met Jennifer Knight Bush (Jennifer Nettles) and formed Sugarland before Bush became known. Sugarland signed with Mercury Nashville in 2003, and their first album, Baby Girl, catapulted the band to stardom. Kristen Hall left the band in early 2006, and Sugarland became a duo before touring with Kenny Chesney. Bush and his wife Jill have two children, son Tucker and daughter Camille, and live in Atlanta, Georgia. Bush’s brother Brandon is a former member of the band Train and tours with Sugarland as a keyboard player.
