Chris Rock is an American actor, comedian, director and producer. He was born Christopher Julius Locke III on February 7, 1965 in Andrews, South Carolina. When he was a toddler, his family moved to Brooklyn, New York. Locke’s mother Rose was a school teacher and his father Julius was a truck driver. His siblings Tony, Kenny and Jordan all share his passion for the entertainment industry. Locke attended James Madison High School but dropped out due to racism. He later received a GED.

Rock began working as a stand-up comedian in 1984. He was discovered by Eddie Murphy while performing in a New York City nightclub. The two became friends, and Rock then made his debut in the 1987 comedy film Beverly Hills Cop II. He became a Saturday Night Live actor in 1990 and released his first comedy album, Born Suspect, a year later. Rock played “Pookie” alongside Wesley Snipes and Ice T in the 1991 film New Jack City. He also appeared in several episodes of the FOX TV series In Living Color.
Rock rose to fame in 1996 when he starred in the HBO comedy special “Bring the Pain.” His performance won two Emmy Awards. He later hosted his own show, The Chris Rock Show, from 1997 to 2000. Other notable comedy specials include “Big Ass Jokes,” “Bigger & Blacker,” and “Never Scared.” Rock starred in a string of films including The Longest Yard, I Think I Love My Wife, Bad Company, Down to Earth and Good Hair. As a producer, Rock is known for the series Everybody Hates Chris and Totally Bias W. Kamau Bell.
