Chris Peterson was born in Yuba, California in 1964 and played quarterback for the college football team at Sacramento City College. He later transferred to the University of California, Davis, where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
From 1987 to 1991, Peterson made his first foray into coaching. In 1992, Peterson coached quarterback in Pittsburgh, followed by two seasons at Portland State. Peterson began a five-year stint as Oregon State wide receiver coach in 1995, before Boise State hired him as offensive coordinator. In 2006, Peterson was promoted to head coach at Boise State, and despite the team’s absence from the much-touted BCS conference, he rose to national fame by turning the Broncos into a perennial powerhouse. Peterson’s Broncos have won four WAC titles and one Mountain West title. In 2014, Peterson accepted the job as Washington’s head coach. He went 99-17 as head coach midway through the 2014 season and 5-2 in bowl games. Peterson is a two-time Paul Bell Bryant Award recipient (2006, 2009). He and his wife Barbara have two sons.
