Chris Martin is an English singer, songwriter, rhythm guitarist and pianist. He is the co-founder and lead singer of alternative rock band Coldplay. He was born Christopher Anthony John Martin on 2 March 1977 in Exeter, Devon. He developed an early interest in music and formed his first band, The Rocking Honkies, while attending Exeter Cathedral School. He completed an undergraduate degree in Ancient World Studies at UCL. Martin and Jonny Buckland co-founded Pectoralz in 1996. With the addition of Guy Berryman and Will Champion, the band was renamed Starfish. They changed their name to Coldplay in 1998.
