Zaa is well known among Hispanics in Latin America and the United States. Zaa is the son of singer Luis Humberto Sánchez and has sung with two famous Colombian salsa orchestras: Grupo Niche and Guayacán.
When he started his solo career, he turned to Bolero rhythms (mid-1990s), and Zaa became a Latin American teen idol overnight. On July 23, 2004, Charlie Zaa was about to start a concert in Ponce, Puerto Rico, with abdominal pain and unable to perform.
