He began writing about politics for The New Republic, and in 1980 served as a speechwriter for Vice President Walter Mondale. He joined The New Republic in 1981 as a writer and editor. He described the new U.S. foreign policy of supporting a global anti-communist insurgency as “Reaganism” and gained public attention when he made his debut. He used the phrase in his Time magazine column in the mid-1980s. In 1987, he won the Pulitzer Prize for his review. In 1997, The Washingtonian magazine named him one of the 50 most influential journalists in the national press corps. In October 2005, he published his famous column “Myers: The Only Exit Strategy”. In 2006, the Financial Times named Krauthammer the most influential commentator in the United States, saying he had influenced U.S. foreign policy for more than 20 years. Another major area of his writing is strategy and geostrategic policy. Although he writes about politics, he avoids direct involvement in the field. Towards the end of his career, Charles was a regular contributor to various Fox News shows.
