Cesare Maldini is an Italian professional football coach and former player. He’s 6 feet tall and serves as a guard. Maldini was born on February 5, 1932 in Trieste, Italy. He played professionally from 1952 to 1967 and coached several teams from 1970 to 2002.
Profession
Maldini’s career started in Triestina in 1952. He played two seasons and appeared in 32 games. He moved to AC Milan in 1954 and won his first league title in Serie A in 1954-55. Maldini made 347 appearances for Milan and was named captain in 1961. In total, he won 4 Serie A titles and a European Cup. Maldini made his debut for the Italian national team in 1960. He played three seasons, made 14 appearances, and participated in the 1962 World Cup. He retired after the 1966-1967 season in Turin.
Maldini first coached in Milan in 1970. He served as an assistant coach to Nereo Rocco. He took over as head coach from 1972-1974. Maldini went on to coach the Italian under-21 team from 1986 to 1996. From 1992 to 1996, he won three consecutive European Under-21 Championships. From 1996-1998 he coached the Italian national team and qualified for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. The team was eliminated by France in the quarterfinals. Maldini retired after the 2002 season with the Paraguay national team. He worked briefly as a scout and later as a sports analyst after his retirement.
