CeeLo Green is an American singer, rapper, music producer and television personality. He is best known as the lead singer of the soul duo “Gnarls Barkley” and a judge on NBC’s The Voice. CeeLo was born Thomas DeCarlo Callaway on May 30, 1974 in Atlanta, Georgia. His father died when he was a toddler and his mother Sheila died when he was a teenager. He has a sister named Shedonna Alexander. CeeLo attended Benjamin Elijah Mays High School in Atlanta. He also studied at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia.

CeeLo started his musical career as a member of the hip hop group Goodie Mob. The other members are Big Gipp, T-Mo and Khujo. Their debut studio album Soul Food was released in 1995 by LaFace Records. It peaked at No. 67 on the Billboard 200 and was later certified Gold by the RIAA. Their second album, Still Standing, was released in 1998. The album consists of Outkast and rappers Cool Breeze and Witchdoctor. Goodie Mob’s other albums include World Party (1999), One Monkey Don’t Stop No Show (2004) and Age Against the Machine (2013).
CeeLo’s debut solo album, Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfects, was released in April 2002 by Arista Records. The album sold very poorly. His follow-up, Cee-Lo Green… Is the Soul Machine (2004), was also unsuccessful. CeeLo’s third album The Lady Killer (2010) debuted at number 9 on the Billboard 200. It has sold over 450,000 copies in the US and over 600,000 copies in the UK. His most recent albums include Cee Lo’s Magic Moment (2012) and Heart Blanche (2015).
Soul duo “Gnarls Barkley” consists of CeeLo Green and music producer Danger Mouse. Their debut album, St. Elsewhere, was released in April 2006. It sold over 1 million copies and won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. It was led by the singles “Crazy”, “Gone Daddy Gone”, “Smiley Faces” and “Who Cares?”. Another album titled “The Odd Couple” was released in 2008.
In addition to music, CeeLo is an actor and TV personality. He served on the coaching team of NBC’s The Voice (2011-13) with Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton.
