Casey Hampton, known as “The Big Dim Sum,” played twelve seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). The Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the first round of the 2001 NFL draft, and he was a five-time Pro Bowl selection.
He was born on September 3, 1977 in Galveston, Texas. He played college football for the University of Texas and earned national recognition. He started 37 straight games for the Texas Longhorns from 1997 to 2000 and was the first defensive lineman to lead his team in steals for two consecutive seasons. In 1998, he was named the team’s most consistent defensive player and started every game. Hampton was selected by the Steelers with the 19th pick in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He rose quickly as a solid mid laner, playing in all 48 games in his first three seasons. Six games into the 2004 season, he tore the ACL in his right knee and missed the rest of the year. He recovered and continued to play for the Steelers through 2012. Hampton was a five-time Pro Bowl selection (2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009). He is also a two-time Super Bowl champion and three-time AFC Champion (2005, 2008, 2010). Hampton was also named the 2000 All-American Consensus and the Major League 12 Defensive Player of the Year that same year. He is currently a free agent.
