Carol Burnett is an American actress and comedian. She is best known for the CBS sketch/variety show “Carol Burnett Show”. Her film works include Pete’n’ Tillie (1972), Annie (1982) and Noises Off (1992). She is the recipient of the 2003 Kennedy Center Honor Award. Carol Creighton Burnett was born on April 26, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas. Her parents Joseph and Louis divorced in the late 1930s. She has a half sister named Chris. Burnett was raised in Hollywood, California by her grandmother Mabel. She attended Hollywood High School and UCLA. She studied theater art and English, but never finished her degree.

Burnett moved to New York in 1954 to perform. The trip was realized through a loan of 1,000 dollars from a benefactor. Her television debut was a guest on the Paul Winchel Show in 1955. Other early TV shows include the Standley and Omnibus series. She has repeatedly played roles in The Garry Moore Show (1959-62), The Entertainers (1964-65) and The Lucy Show (1966-67). Burnett premiered her variety show/sketch comedy show “The Carol Burnett Show” on CBS in September 1967. It lasted for 11 seasons until March 1978. Burnett’s TV works include Crazy, Desperate Housewives for You, Law and Order: SVU, Glee, hit Cleveland and Hawaii 5-0. She dubbed “The Great Aunt Sylvia” for the animated series “Curious George” (2013-14).
Burnett starred in “Tillie Schlaine” with Walter Matthau in Pete’n’ Tillie (1972). Her film works include a front page with Jack Lemmon (1974), “Four Seasons” (1981) with Alan Alda and Albert Finney. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush in 2005.
