Carmelo Anthony is an American professional basketball player currently signed with the Portland Trail Blazers. He’s 6-foot-8 and plays at small forward. His career spanned the likes of the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks. Anthony was born on May 29, 1984, in Brooklyn, New York, to parents Mary Anthony and Carmelo Iliad. His father died of liver failure when he was 2 years old. He has siblings Robert and Michelle, and half-sister Daphne. Anthony grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Towson Catholic High School in Maryland and then Oak Hill College in Virginia. He continued his basketball career and education at Syracuse University.

Anthony entered Syracuse University in the fall of 2002. He started all 35 games and averaged 22.2 points, 10 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He led the Syracuse Orange to the 2003 NCAA Championship. Anthony was named the NCAA Final Four MVP. His college honors also include the All-American Second Team and USBWA Rookie of the Year. His No. 15 jersey was retired by Syracuse.
Anthony was selected by the Denver Nuggets with the third overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft. His rookie debut came on October 29 against the San Antonio Spurs. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2004. Anthony played eight seasons with the Nuggets and led them to seven straight playoff appearances. The team reached the Western Conference finals in 2009, their first since 1985. Anthony was traded to the New York Knicks in 2011. He scored a career-high 62 points in January 2014 against the Charlotte Bobcats.
Melo played seven seasons with the Knicks. He averaged a career-high 8.1 rebounds (2013-14) and 4.2 assists (2015-16). Carmelo played one season for Oklahoma City (2017-18) and one season for the Houston Rockets (2018-19). He was traded to the Chicago Bulls on January 22, 2019. The Bulls waived him after 10 days. Melo was eventually drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers. He signed a one-year contract on November 19, 2019.
Anthony is a 10-time NBA All-Star, a 4-time All-NBA third-team member, and a 2-time NBA All-NBA second-team member. He was the 2013 NBA scoring leader, averaging 28.7 points per game.
