Carlos Santana (Carlos Santana) is a Grammy Award-winning Mexican-American guitarist, songwriter and band leader. He is best known for combining rock and jazz rhythms with Latin music. His records include Abraxas (1970), Supernatural (1999) and Shaman (2002). Santana was originally named Carlos Augusto Alves Santana (Carlos Augusto Alves Santana), and was born on July 20, 1947 in Ortran, Mexico. He is one of seven children. Santana learned to play the violin and guitar from his father Jose. The family moved to Tijuana, Mexico in 1955, and then to San Francisco, California in the early 1960s. Santana graduated from Mission High School. He became a naturalized American citizen in 1965.

The other band members are David Brown, Marcus Malone and Greg Rowley. The band signed with Columbia Records after an unforgettable performance at the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. Their first studio album Santana of the same name was released in August 1969. Among them are the top 10 hits “Evil Ways” composed by Sonny Henry. Santana’s second album, Abraxas, topped the billboard charts in September 1970. It produced the singles “Oye Como Va” and “Black Magic Woman”, and received 5 times platinum certification from RIAA.
Santana won his first Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Performance for his album Blues for Salvador (1987). In addition to Colombia, he has also worked with Polydor, RCA and Arista Records. His most commercially successful album “Supernatural” was released in 1999. Headed by the single “Smooth” starring Rob Thomas. This album won 8 Grammy Awards including Album of the Year. It also won 3 Latin Grammy Awards. Other popular albums include Shaman (2002) and All That I Am (2005). Santana and his band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2009.
