He is the son of former Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers player Craig Colquitt, the nephew of former NFL player Jimmy Colquitt, the brother of current Kansas City Chiefs player Dustin Colquitt, and the current Cousin of Tennessee Tech player Greg Colquitt.
He attended Bearden High School in Knoxville, where he played soccer and football. Britton Colquitt played college football at the University of Tennessee, where he was a first-team player for the Volunteers in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons. Colquitt earned unanimous All-SEC First Team honors in 2006 and All-SEC Second Team honors in 2007. Despite his NFL playing family blood Britton Colquitt was undrafted in the 2009 NFL draft. Britton Colquitt signed with the Miami Dolphins practice team on December 22, 2009.
