He stayed in the Midwest to attend college and played in Iowa from 1989 to 1992. He had a brief stint with the Milwaukee Broncos in 1994 before beginning his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Hawkeyes.
Bielema was promoted to Iowa State’s linebackers coach in 2001, and he served as joint defensive coordinator at Kansas State University from 2002 to 2003. In 2004, Bielema was hired as the University of Wisconsin’s defensive coordinator and, a season later, was promoted to the Badgers’ head coach, a title he served as Arkansas’ head coach from 2006 to 2012. Bielema amassed a 77-38 head coaching record midway through the 2014 season and went 2-4 in bowl games. Bielema has three Big Ten Championships (2010, 2011, 2012) and two Big Ten Leaders Division Championships (2011, 2012). He has lost every Rose Bowl game he has coached to date.
