He has worked for The Times and The Daily Telegraph. From 1994 he was assistant editor of The Daily Telegraph and then editor of The Spectator from 1999 to 2005.

Johnson’s first political office came in 2001, when he was elected MP for Henry. Johnson, a member of the Conservative Party, wrote books and made regular television appearances while in the Commons. He was briefly Shadow Minister for the Arts in 2004 and Shadow Minister for Higher Education from 2005 to 2007.
In 2008, he defeated Labour incumbent Ken Livingstone to become mayor of London.
He oversaw the 2012 London Olympics and banned alcohol on public transport. In 2012, Johnson was re-elected, again beating Ken Livingstone.
