Bobby Heenan, nicknamed “The Brain,” is an American retired professional wrestler, wrestling manager and commentator of color. He is active in the American Wrestling Association (AWA), World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and World Championships of Wrestling (WCW). He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame. Raymond Louis Hainan was born on November 1, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. He dropped out in 8th grade to help support his family.

Heenan made his debut as a heel manager and wrestler in the mid-1960s. He performed under the nickname “Pretty Boy”. His first boxing match was against Prince Prince in 1965. He was active in the WWA from 1967 to 1974. During his tenure, he managed wrestlers like Angelo Poffo and The Valiant Brothers. Heenan joined AWA in 1974 under the new stage name “The Brain”. In 1974, he also created a group of heel wrestlers called “The Heenan Family”. They competed in the AWA, WWF and Georgia State Wrestling Championships (GCW). They disbanded in 1991. Heenan managed Nick Bockwinkel at the AWA and won his first World Championship in 1975. He won the AWA World Tag Team Championship in 1976. He also manages AWA’s Ken Patera and Masa Saito.
Heenan was WWF Manager from 1984 to 1993. During this time he has managed Jesse Ventura, Big John Studd, Buddy Rose, Paul Orndorff, Rick Rude, Andre the Giant and several others. His wrestlers have won titles such as the WWF Intercontinental and WWF World Tag Team Championships. The Heenan family is also known for their feud with wrestling icon Hulk Hogan in the 1980s. Heenan was appointed Color Critic by Vince McMahon in 1986. He has worked with Gorilla Monsoon on projects such as Prime Time Wrestling, All American Wrestling, All-Star Wrestling, and the WWF Wrestling Challenge.
Heenan retired in 1991 with a neck injury. He made his WCW debut in January 1994 as a color commentator. He has worked on WCW Saturday Night, WCW Global, Battle of Champions, and WCW Monday Nitro. He was eventually replaced by Mark Madden and Steve Ray. Heenan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2006. He has published two career memoirs, ‘Bobby Brain: Wrestling’s Bad Boys Tell It All’ and ‘Chair Shooting and Other Obstacles: The Wrestling Match That Wins Your Life’.
