Blowfly is an American rapper, songwriter and record producer. He was born Clarence Henry Reed on February 14, 1939, in Cochran, Georgia. He earned the nickname “Blowfly” after his grandmother found him singing dirty lyrics. In the mid-1960s, he moved to Miami, Florida, to work with producer Henry Stone. He has written and produced for artists such as Betty Wright, Gwen McCrae and Bobby Byrd. Reed dubbed and released several of his own songs, including the 1969 hit “Nobody but You Babe.”

Blowfly’s first studio “The Weird World of Blowfly” was recorded in 1970 and released in 1971. He signed with the independent label Alternative Tentacles in 2005 and released the album “Fahrenheit 69”. In 2006, he followed up with the release of “Blowfly’s Punk Rock Party”. He recorded a total of 26 albums with his alter ego Blowfly. He was the subject of the 2012 documentary The Weird World of Blowfly, directed by Jonathan Furmanski. Shot over two years, the film covers his legacy and contributions to music history.
