He served as a backup pitcher in Major League Baseball and, despite not legally retiring, has not played since 2009. Ryan was born on December 28, 1975 in Bossier City, Louisiana. He started out as a left-handed specialist and started playing for the Cincinnati Reds in 1999.
Ryan is the only player known to win an MLB game without pitching. Known for his excellent control and fastball, he was the finishing pitcher during his tenure with the Baltimore Orioles from 1999 to 2005. After the Orioles, Ryan became a free agent and later signed his second All-Star Game with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2006.
