Billy Graham is an American Christian evangelist and appointed as a Baptist pastor. He spent more than sixty years preaching the gospel. He rose to fame in 1949 and began broadcasting his sermons on radio and television worldwide. William Franklin Graham Jr. was born on November 7, 1918 in Charlotte, North Carolina. His parents are William and Morrow. He has three younger siblings, Melvin, Jean and Catherine. Graham grew up on a dairy farm. He received a bachelor’s degree in theology (1940) from Trinity College and a bachelor’s degree in anthropology (1943) from Wheaton College.

Billy Graham began to participate in revival meetings organized by the evangelist Mordecaiham. After graduating from Sharon High School, he moved to Tennessee. Before transferring to Florida Bible College (now Trinity College), he spent a year at Bob Jones College. Graham was appointed pastor of the Southern Baptist Church in 1939. Next, he moved to Illinois and became a student at Wheaton College. During his tenure, he met his future wife Ruth McQuay Bell. The two married on August 13, 1943. Graham served briefly as a pastor at the First Baptist Church in West Springs, Illinois. He became the first full-time preacher of the “Christian Youth” evangelism group. From 1947 to 1952, he also served as the principal of Northwest School.
Graham presided over the “Berry Graham Crusade” from 1947 to 2005. He founded the Billy Graham Evangelism Association (BGEA) in 1950. His weekly radio show “The Moment of Decision” aired from 1950 to 1954. It is broadcast in more than 1,000 radio stations worldwide. BGEA’s ministries include World Wide Pictures, Passageway.org, Christianity Today, Decision Magazine, and the joint newspaper column My Answer. Billy Graham’s Gospel Film Department was established in 1952. Billy Graham has served as the spiritual adviser to many American presidents. In the 1960s, he was famous for releasing Martin Luther King Jr. from prison on bail. In addition to preaching, he has published several books, including Angels: God’s Secret Agent (1975), Death and the Afterlife (1994), and Journey (2006). Graham was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Ronald Reagan (1983). He was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1999. Other honors include the Congressional Gold Medal, Big Brother Award, and Templeton Foundation Award for Religious Progress. The Gallup organization included him on the list of worshippers of the fog with a record 55 times.
