Bill Wyman is an English musician and songwriter best known as the bassist for the Rolling Stones. He was born William George Perks, Jr. on October 24, 1936, in Lewisham, London. Wyman grew up in Sydenham, South London, and attended Beckenham and Penger County Grammar School. He worked briefly for a bookmaker before serving in the British Armed Forces.

Wyman’s early interest in music led him to the piano at the age of 10. He eventually switched to bass guitar when he played with the Clifton Band in 1961. Wyman’s early musical influences included artists such as Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. In 1962, he auditioned and became a member of the Rolling Stones. The other band members at the time were Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Brian Jones. The band released their self-titled debut album on April 16, 1964. Other notable albums include Some Girls (1978), Tattoo You (1981) and Sticky Fingers (1971). A solo artist, Wyman released five albums starting with 1974’s “Monkey Grip”. He left the Rolling Stones in 1993 and started his own band Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings a few years later.
