Bill Paxton is an Emmy-nominated American actor and director. His performance credits include Alien (1986), Titanic (1997) and the series Big Love (2006-11). Paxton was born William Paxton on May 17, 1955, in Fort Worth, Texas. His mother, Mary, was Roman Catholic, and his father, John, was a lumber merchant and occasional actor. He has a younger brother named Bob. Paxton attended Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth. He studied at New York University, but dropped out after two years.

Paxton’s first screen role was “John” in the 1975 action comedy “Mad Moms.” He wrote and starred in the short film “Fish Head” released in 1980. After it aired on Saturday Night Live, it became a cult classic. Paxton went on to have small roles in King of Discipline (1983), The Terminator (1984) and Weird Science (1985). He had a supporting role as a technician in Aliens (1986) starring Sigourney Weaver. The role earned him a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Paxton played Dale “Hurricane” Dixon in the thriller “A Wrong Action” (1992), opposite Billy Bob Thornton. Other notable films include Apollo 13 (1995) with Tom Hanks, Tornado (1996) with Helen Hunt, Titanic (1997) with Leonardo DiCaprio and Edge of Tomorrow (2014) with Tom Cruise. His work as a director includes Fragile (2001) and The Greatest Game Ever (2005). Paxton starred as “Bill Henrickson” in the HBO series “Big Love.” The show ran from March 2006 to March 2011, with a total of 53 episodes. His television credits also include Hatfields & McCoys (2012), Agents of SHIELD (2014) and Texas Rising (2015).
