He shot to fame as “Radio Rahim” in Spike Lee’s 1989 film “Doing the Right Thing.” Nunn was born William Godwin Nunn III on October 20, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His parents are Frances and Little William. He has a sister named Lenelle. Nunn attended Shenley High School, followed by Morehouse College. He graduated in 1976 with a BA in English Literature.

Nunn’s first notable film role was “Grady” in Spike Lee’s 1988 comedy “School Lost.” He played the beloved role of “Radio Raheem” in Do the Right Thing (1989). The film was nominated for two Oscars and two Golden Globes. Nunn played the role of personal bodyguard with Wesley Snipes and Ice T in New Jack City (1991). Other early films include “About Henry” (1991) with Harrison Ford, “Sister Act” (1992) with Whoopi Goldberg and 1900 The Legend (1998) with Tim Ross.
