Bill Murray is an American actor, comedian, writer and radio celebrity. He played various roles in “Saturday Night Live” and became famous in one fell swoop. Murray was born William James Murray on September 21, 1950 in Evanston, Illinois. He ranks fifth among nine children. His mother Lucille was a mailroom clerk, and his father Edward was a lumberyard worker. Murray grew up in Wilmette, Illinois, where he attended Loyola College. He briefly studied pre-medical courses at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. He dropped out of school before finishing his degree.

Murray moved to New York City in 1974. He was later recruited to perform in the comedy radio show “National Satirical Radio Hour”. From 1977 to 1980, Murray spent three seasons on Saturday Night Live. He won the Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding writing in 1977. Murray first starred in the 1979 film “Meatballs”. His role as “Tripper Harrison” earned him a nomination for the Best Acting Elf Award. Other early films include Caddyshack (1980) with Chevy Chase, Ghostbusters (1984) with Dan Aykroyd, and Groundhog Day (1993) with Andie MacDowell.
Murray played against Scarlett Johansson in the 2003 comedy film “Lost in Translation”. His “Bob Harris” won him an Oscar nomination for best actor. Murray won the Emmy Award for the second time in 2014 for his role in the HBO miniseries “Olive Kitridge”.
