He went to King Wyman’s Academy, where he played football, but left after his freshman year because of a bitter disagreement with the head coach. After enrolling, he briefly attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College, but then transferred to Wichita State to play basketball, during which time he underwent pituitary surgery. Big Show is also a student at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Before becoming a professional wrestler, Big Show took several odd jobs after school, including working at a karaoke company through which he met professional wrestler Danny Bonaduce, who then introduced him to the legendary Hulk Hogan, The latter introduced him to World Wrestling. After his debut, the Hulk recommended him to Eric Bischoff, who was vice president of World Championship Wrestling at the time. The Big Show was invited to perform at Rosemont Horizon, where he met some of his childhood idols, including Arn Anderson and Rick Flair, and met with Bischoff, after which the two struck a deal. In 1995, he made his WCW debut as The Giant and began his journey to greatness. He changed his name to the Big Show and has now won 7 titles, 11 tag titles, and many other awards.
