Under his direction, it has grown into a multi-billion dollar company with more than 35,000 employees in 54 countries. In 1971 he moved from Sweden to Germany, and six years later he established the EF headquarters in Lucerne, Switzerland, where he currently resides.
Hult served as the company’s CEO until 2002 and then as the company’s chairman until 2008. Today, the semi-retired businessman leaves most of the responsibilities to his two oldest sons, Philip Hult and Alex Hult, who now jointly hold the CEO position at the company. Whereas his third son, Edward Hult, serves as CEO of EF Educational Tours. In addition to doing business, Hult makes an annual donation to a Swedish school based on innovative support for dyslexia education. Due to his career in education, the Hult International Business School is named after him. Bertil Hult is an avid sailor, married with four children.
