Bernardo Caprotti net worth

Bernardo Caprotti Net Worth: Bernardo Caprotti is an Italian entrepreneur with a net worth of $2.4 billion. This year, Mr. Caprotti entered the billionaires list as the owner of Esselunga. It is a private company and is considered the third largest grocery store in Italy. Bernardo Caprotti founded the company back in 1957 with future US Vice President Nelson Rockefeller.

But when he found out that Nelson was planning to set up an Italian supermarket with some of his competitors, Caprotti offered him a bigger share just to do business with him. They opened the country’s first supermarket using a garage in central Milan. By 1964, Capriotti had 16 supermarkets in three Italian cities. Since then, the company has continued to expand in northern Italy, reporting total revenue of $9.2 billion (€6.8 billion). A longtime businessman, Bernardo Caprotti even wrote a book in 2007 in which he complained about corruption between rival Coop Italia and local politicians. He then had to pay a fine of $400,000 (€300,000) for the statements in the book. In 2005, he gave 92% of Esselunga to his two children, leaving only 8% to himself. However, six years later, he changed his mind and took back 92% of his shares. He won even when his kids filed a lawsuit. The old man often wrote vitriolic letters to the editor after being criticized by the Italian media.
