Behati Prinsloo was born on May 16, 1988 in Grootfontein (now Namibia), South Africa. Her mother, Magda, runs a bed and breakfast, and her father, Boit, is a priest. Behati’s native language is Afrikaans, but she learned English at a young age. Prinsloo attended Grootfontein Secondary School and dropped out after Year 9 to pursue a modeling career. When she was 16, she was found in a grocery store on a trip to Cape Town with her grandparents. Behati told Fashionista magazine, “This guy came to me, asked if I was a model, wrote his number on a piece of paper, and my grandfather was shady like that. So we went home and told my parents. And did nothing.” She said the next time she visited Cape Town, Noelle Doukas, daughter of Storm Agency founder Sarah Doukas, found her, which led Behati to sign up with the agency.

Behati married Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine on July 19, 2014, after two years of dating. Actor Jonah Hill officiated at the wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Prinsloo and Levine welcomed daughter Dusty Rose on September 21, 2016, followed by Gio Grace on February 15, 2018. After the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Behati and model Coco Rocha visited the country in partnership with charity LakayPam. They help raise funds, visit orphanages, and deliver letters of hope from people around the world, and their travels are documented in the 2011 film Letters to Haiti. In July 2020, Prinsloo and Levine teamed up with Save the Children and Ferrari to raise funds for the charity’s education initiative, which provides “free learning resources and support for parents and carers” during the COVID-19 pandemic.
