Bacaksiz Sezai becomes co-owner and current vice-chairman of Limak Holding, with businesses in construction, energy tourism and cement. Sezai, a mechanical engineering graduate, owns half of Limak and the other half in the hands of billionaire Nihat Ozdemir.
Bacaksiz is in charge of the airports and tourism business lines, while Ozdemir controls the cement and energy sectors. Some of its key assets include Limak Cement and Limak Energy, and Limak Tourism Group. Limak Construction won a tender in 2011 for the renovation of Cairo Airport, which is estimated to cost $387 million. Just a year later, the port of Iskenderun was taken over by the company. Next, Limak and billionaire Ahmet Calik won the bid for the Kosovo Electricity Company’s distribution and procurement business. They also acquired BEDAS for $2 billion along with Cengiz and Kolin Construction. BEDAS now has more than 10 million users, and the trio of Limak, Cengiz, Kolin covers 30% of all electricity users in Turkey.
