August Alsina is an American singer and songwriter. He rose to fame with Trinidad James’ single “I Luv This”. His records include the albums Testimony (2014) and This Thing Called Life (2015). He is currently signed with Def Jam Recordings. August Anthony Alsina Jr. was born on September 3, 1992 in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the age of 13, he moved to Houston, Texas with his mother Sheila. This move occurred shortly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Alsina faced a lot of hardships and struggles when she was a child. He dropped out of high school and was once homeless. His brother Melvin was shot dead in 2010. This loss sounded the alarm. In 2011, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia.

The accompanying music video has been viewed more than 58 million times on YouTube. Alcina’s first studio album “Testimony” was released by Def Jam in April 2014. It ranked second on the Billboard 200 and was certified as a gold award by the RIAA. Guests on this album include Jeezy, Fabolous, Rick Ross, Yo Gotti and others. He won the 2014 BET Best Newcomer Award. He was also selected for the 2014 XXL freshman class.
Alsina appeared in the song “Hold You Down” on DJ Khaled’s 8th album I Changed a Lot (2014). Later that year, he collaborated with rapper Kevin Gates on the mixtape Luca Brasi 2 (2014) to produce the track “I’m Not Tired”. Alsina’s second full album “This Thing Called Life” was released in December 2015. 41,000 copies were sold in the first week. This album gave birth to Lil Wayne’s singles “Hip Hop”, “Song Cry” and “Why I Do It”. His 2017 singles include “Lonely” and “Don’t Matter”.
