Franklin began singing and playing the piano when he was very young. She got an early performance opportunity in her father’s gospel tour. Her first record contract was signed with the record company JVB Records. Her first studio album “Song of Faith” was released in 1956. She was recorded at New Bethel Baptist Church when she was 14 years old. In 1960, Franklin moved to New York and signed with Columbia Records. The first song she produced for the label was “Today I Sing the Blues”. In February 1961, she released her second album “Aretha”. It is led by the song “Won’t Be Long”. Franklin won 8 Grammy Awards between 1969 and 1975. Her 1970s singles include “Share Your Love with Me”, “Strange Grace” and “Not Real at All”. Between 1980 and 2003, she recorded 10 albums for Clive Davis’ Arista Records. Her 33rd album Who’s Zoomin’ Who? (1985), obtained platinum certification in the United States and Canada. It was led by the single “Highway of Love”, which ranked third on the Billboard Top 100 Singles chart. Franklin played a supporting role as “Mrs. Murphy” in the film Brothers of Blues (1980). The film is directed by John Landis, starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.

She has won multiple awards, including 18 Grammy Awards, 3 American Music Awards and 3 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s Image Award. Because of her contribution to music, she is called the “Queen of Soul”.
