Unfortunately, Antoine is one of the few NBA stars who eventually encountered financial problems after a career salary of more than $100 million. He filed for bankruptcy in 2007. Between 1996 and 2009, Walker earned more than $108 million from NBA salary.
Antoine was selected by the Boston Celtics in 1996. Antoine Devon Walker was born on August 12, 1976 in Chicago, Illinois. Antoine grew up in the southern area of Chicago. After finishing high school in Chicago, he entered the University of Kentucky with a full scholarship. Subsequently, he became the starting forward of the Wildcats and eventually helped the team win the NCAA Division I championship.
Profession
At the end of his sophomore year, Walker announced that he was eligible to participate in the 1996 NBA Draft. He was then selected by the Boston Celtics with the sixth overall pick. In his first year, he was selected to the All-Rookie First Team and recorded some impressive numbers. In 1998, Walker teamed up with Paul Pierce to build a strong offensive combination over the next few years. After being selected to the All-Star team for the third time, Walker was traded to the Dallas Mavericks before the start of the 2003-2004 season.
Unfortunately, for Antoine, he has almost no playing time because the Mavericks’ offensive talent is already quite rich. This eventually led to Walker being traded to the Atlanta Hawks again. Legal Issues
In 2010, Walker pleaded not guilty to a felony bad check charge for failing to pay $770,000 in gambling losses to Caesars Palace and two other casinos in Las Vegas. A year later, he reportedly pleaded guilty to a felony charge of passing a bad check. According to his plea agreement, he did not face imprisonment, but probation, and he must work hard to repay his debts. In his defense, Walker stated that he had never actually written a check, but the casino had his bank account on file. According to Walker, the whole situation happened because the casino tried to withdraw funds from an account that had no money.

In 2010, Walker filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in the Southern District of Florida, with total assets of $4.3 million and opposition debt of $12.7 million. The document lists four real estates, including a Miami house worth $2.3 million with a mortgage of $3.6 million. The document also mentions three other properties, all of which are located in Chicago. One of them was finally put on the market at a price of 1.4 million U.S. dollars. Walker’s championship ring had to be sold to pay off the debt. In August 2013, Walker announced that he had no debts.
So how exactly did Walker spend his millions of dollars of wealth? He admitted that this was a total purchase made lightly. A 400,000-dollar car (like a Maybach), expensive jewellery (some of which were stolen in a well-known gun robbery), a house he could not actually afford, etc. He also explained that he trusted other people to run businesses on his behalf, many of which ended in failure.
He also said that his biggest mistake was to enter the real estate industry in Chicago. Antoine and his partner purchased “a bunch of properties” together. However, his real estate empire was poorly managed-the 2007-2008 real estate crash followed. Since he was the personal guarantor of all these properties, Antoine was hit particularly hard by the economic downturn. He borrowed a lot of money from the bank to fund these property acquisitions.
