He is a member of the New York City Council and a former U.S. representative for the 9th Congressional District in New York. Weiner was born on September 4, 1964 in Brooklyn, New York. His father Mott is a lawyer and his mother Francis is a public school teacher. He has two brothers, Jason and Seth. Weiner attended Brooklyn Technical High School, followed by the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. He graduated in 1985 with a bachelor of arts degree in political science.

Weiner began his political career as an intern in Chuck Schumer’s Washington, DC office in 1985. He was transferred to Schumer’s Brooklyn office in 1988, where he worked for six years. Weiner ran his first political campaign in 1991 and was elected to the New York City Council. From January 1992 to December 1998, he served in the 48th district.
In 1998, Weiner succeeded Chuck Schumer as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for the 9th congressional district in New York. He held this position from January 1999 to June 2011. Weiner resigned suddenly after the porn scandal. He once again lost the election for mayor of New York in 2003 and 2013.
