Anthony Kiedis is an American rock singer, songwriter, and lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He was born on November 1, 1962 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to parents John Michael and Margaret. He has three half-siblings, Julie, Jenny and James. Kiedis’ parents divorced when he was a toddler. He lived with his mother in Michigan before moving to Los Angeles in 1974 to live with his father. While in Los Angeles, he attended Fairfax High School and then the University of California. He dropped out of college due to his addiction to cocaine and heroin.

Kiedis formed the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1983. The current band members are Flea (bass), Chad Smith (drums), Josh Klinghoffer (guitar) and Kiedis (vocals). In August 1984, EMI Records released the band’s self-titled debut album, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Although the album was not a commercial success, the band attracted a large following. Their second album, Freaky Styley, was released the following year, and sales were sluggish.

Kiedis and The Chili Peppers rose to fame with their fifth album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, released in 1991 by Warner Bros. Records. The album peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and has since sold more than 13 million copies worldwide. It featured the singles “Under the Bridge”, “Give It Away” and “Suck My Kiss”. The group released 11 studio albums, including California (1999), Stadium Arcadium (2006) and I’m with You (2011). As a group, The chili Peppers have sold more than 80 million records and won six Grammys. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.

In addition to music, Kiedis has made several screen appearances over the years. In his early roles, he was known as “Cole Dammet”. His debut was in the 1978 film “Fist” starring Sylvester Stallone. That same year, he appeared in ABC Afterschool Special and Jokes My Folks Never Told Me. Other on-screen appearances include Point Break (1991) with Patrick Swayze, The Chase (1994) with Charlie Sheen, and executive producer of “Low Down (2014).”
