Davis began his basketball career at Perspectives Charter School. He grew from 6 feet as a freshman to over 6 feet 9 feet as a senior. Davis averaged 32 points, 22 rebounds and seven blocks per game as a senior. His high school honors include 3 plenary and marching All-Americans. Davis chose to attend Kentucky instead of Ohio State, Syracuse and DePaul. He played one season with the Kentucky Wildcats from 2011 to 2012. Davis started 40 of 40 games and averaged 14.2 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.7 blocks. He was named SEC Player of the Year and National Player of the Year in 2012. Davis was selected by the New Orleans Pelicans with the first overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. He signed a three-year contract in July 2012 and made his debut on November 1, 2012. Davis was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2013. He led the NBA with 189 and 200 blocks in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Davis made his first NBA All-Star Game in 2014. He was named to the All-NBA First Team and All-Defensive Second Team in 2015. Davis re-signed with the Pelicans in 2015. He had a monster 2016-17 season opener with 50 points, 16 rebounds, 7 steals, 5 assists and 4 blocks against the Denver Nuggets. In June 2019, Davis signed with the Los Angeles Lakers after seven seasons with the Pelicans.
