Anthony Bourdain is an American chef, best-selling author and TV personality. He became famous with his “Kitchen Secrets: The Adventures of Cooking Secrets” published in 2000. His screen works include No Reservations (2005-12), The Layover (2011-12), Parts Unknown (2013-18) and the movie The Big Short (2015). In 2008, he was selected into the James Beard Foundation’s Who’s Who in Food and Beverage of America. Anthony Michael Bourdain was born on June 25, 1956 in New York City. He grew up in Leonia, New Jersey. His father Pierre (died 1987) was a music director, and his mother Gladys was the editor of the New York Times. He has a younger brother named Christopher. Bourdan attended Dwight Englewood School and then studied at Vassar College for two years. He completed his studies at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in 1978.

Bourdain’s first job in the catering industry was a dishwasher. During college, he worked in many seafood restaurants in Provincetown, Massachusetts. After graduating from the CIA, he ran several New York City restaurants, including One Fifth Avenue, Sullivan’s and Supper Club. In 1998, he was appointed as the executive chef of Brasserie Les Halles. Les Halles officially closed due to bankruptcy in 2017. As a writer, Bourdain’s first famous work “Don’t Eat Before Reading This” appeared in The New Yorker in 1999. He subsequently published the “New York Times” bestseller “Kitchen Secrets: The Adventures of Cooking the Belly” (2000). His other publications include A Cook’s Tour (2001), The Nasty Bits (2006), No Reservations (2007) and Medium Raw (2010). He co-authored the graphic novel Get Jiro! (2012) and Get Jiro: Blood and Sushi (2015) are DC Comics.
Bourdain’s travel and food series “A Cook’s Tour” premiered on Food.com in 2002, and aired for two seasons with 35 episodes in total. Both seasons were released on Netflix in January 2017. Bourdain hosted No Reservations (2005-12) on Travel Channel. The show aired for 9 seasons and won 2 Emmy Awards and a Critics’ Choice Award. Bourdain hosted The Layover (2011-13) and Parts Unknown (2013-18) on CNN. The latter has won 5 Emmy Awards and one Peabody Award. His TV works also include top chefs, top chefs all-stars, chefs’ hearts and tastes. He got a skull tattoo in the 2006 TLC Miami Ink series. Bourdain also wrote for the HBO series “Treme”. His film works include Far Cry (2008) with Till Schweiger, and “Big Short” (2015) with Christian Bale and Steve Carell.
