Early life and education
Ann Curry was born on November 19, 1956, in Agana, Guam, to Robert, an American of Irish and German descent, and Hiroe, a Japanese. She is the eldest of five children. Growing up, Curry lived in Japan for several years; she attended the Ernest J. King School at the Sasebo Naval Base in Nagasaki for U.S. Fleet Activities. She later moved to Ashland, Oregon, where she attended Ashland High School. Curry went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oregon.

After graduating from college in 1978, Curry began her broadcasting career at KTVL in Medford, Oregon. There, she eventually became the station’s first female reporter. In 1980, Curry moved to KGW in Portland to work as a reporter and anchor. Four years later, she moved to Los Angeles to become a reporter for KCBS-TV. In that role, Curry won two Emmy Awards for his coverage of the 1987 Los Angeles earthquake and the San Bernardino natural gas pipeline explosion.
NBC tenure
In 1990, Curry joined NBC News as the network’s Chicago correspondent. The following year, she became the anchor of “NBC Sunrise News,” a position she held until 1996. Meanwhile, from 1994 to 1997, she was Matt Lauer’s alternate news anchor. After that, Curry became TODAY’s news anchor; she held that position until 2011, becoming the show’s second-longest anchor behind Frank Blair. While still on “Today,” she also co-anchors “Dateline NBC” with Stone Phillips. When Phillips left in 2007, Curry was the main force. From 2005 to 2011, she was the lead backup anchor for NBC Nightly News.
At NBC, Curry has covered countless major global news stories. Last NBC Years
In June 2012, Curry made an emotional announcement on the air that she was leaving TODAY and signed a new contract with the network as a national and international reporter and anchor. In the time since then, Curry has led a small division producing content for shows like “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt,” “Rock Central with Brian Williams,” and more and reports. Additionally, she hosts some primetime specials on NBC News. Curry made his first appearance on “Today” in August 2012 after leaving London to cover the Summer Olympics. She officially left NBC News in early 2015.
Career after NBC
In one of her first major roles since leaving NBC, Curry moderated a panel discussion between Lady Gaga and the Dalai Lama at the 84th American Conference of Mayors in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 2018, she started hosting the documentary “We’ll Meet Ann Curry Again” on PBS. The series follows survivors of tragic events reuniting with those who lived through them. In its first season, the show features individuals who have lived through historical events such as World War II, the Vietnam War, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks. “We’ll meet Ann Curry again” runs through early 2019.
In other shows since NBC, Curry was a guest co-host of “The View” in January 2018; on the show, she addressed the controversy surrounding her “Today” departure, including allegations of racism. In 2019, Curry hosted “Chasing the Cure” on TNT/TBS.

In 1989, Curry married Brian Rose, a software executive she met in college. They have a daughter named Mackenzie and a son named William and live in New Canaan, Connecticut.
